Peterborough's most famous monument, The Cathedral Church, is dedicated to Saint Peter, Saint Paul, and Saint Andrew. Initially built as a monastery in AD 655, it took its present form between 1118 and 1238. In 1541, the church became the Cathedral of the new Diocese of Peterborough, and Peterborough became a city. Visitors are usually overwhelmed by the Cathedral's architecture, particularly its imposing West Front, which bears three enormous arches. Catherine of Aragon, Queen of England from 1509-1533, was buried as a Princess (after the annulment of her marriage with Henry VIII) at Peterborough Abbey (at that time). Her tomb is also a touristic attraction. Despite episodic damages, extensions and restorations that have occurred through time, the church is still considered as one of the most important medieval buildings in England to have remained largely intact.

A little bit about us...

Peterborough Language School (PLS) is located in the historic city of Peterborough (Cambridgeshire), about 1 hour from London and 40 minutes from Cambrigde. Our facilities are located in the heart of the city, with easy access to shopping centres, bus and train stations, as well as the main touristic attractions (museum, cathedral).

At PLS, we teach English (mainly) and several other languages. We have skilled specialized teachers and programmes for all levels and ages. We also provide translation and interpreter services, and preparation courses for IELTS and Cambridge ESOL exams.

Our core business is based on the concept of "study holidays", and we receive groups of students from Portugal, Spain, France, and Italy. During their stay in the UK (with host families), students engage in classes and cultural activities, and participate in visits to London, Cambridge, or Stamford. We promote a close contact of students with English habits and culture, and students are often required to deal with day-to-day situations, making use of practical aspects of spoken English. PLS offers standard programs, but we can also tailor-make the trip for groups of individuals or schools.
